"Writing to change the world"
My Work

Who is John Edwards?

Hello, my name is John A. Edwards. I reside in Fort Worth, Texas with my beautiful wife Vicki, and my 2 sons Blaine and Jordan. I’m originally from El Dorado, Arkansas. I grew up in a family of 6, with 3 siblings, Elois, James and Katrina. I was blessed with the best parents in the world, John and Dossie Edwards, who were married for 53 years.

My father was an awesome provider. I learned the true meaning of hard work from my father who seemed to never sleep, instilling in me work ethics that have stayed with me even today. My mother (gasp). My mother. The most beautiful, kindest, nurturing, and inspiring human being I’ve ever known. Her incredible spirit moved me in a way that was so amazing, along with her words of wisdom and spiritual direction, teaching me that I could not only be anything, but also that I could do anything I set my mind to. Always telling me to put God first, “I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me” Philippians 4:13.

These are the blocks that built the foundation that helped form and mold my views on life, people, and understanding the human struggle. Therefore, being a part of this world, I have an obligation and more so a responsibility to do my part in giving a true depiction that goes beneath the surface in understanding the unpredictable human experience.

Why do you write?

Besides the fact that I love to write, I write to inspire, educate, to mentor, and give insight to life’s challenges and struggles through the human experience, hoping somehow to evoke emotions that leads to open dialogue and an understanding that everyone has a story to be told. Knowing this, I write to be the voice for those for whatever the reason might be, are in need of their voice to be heard.

When did you realize that your writing could have an effect on the world?

After I wrote and performed, “Twisted Karma.”

It’s a story of how important the role of a father plays in the life of a child, and the decision that he makes in choosing not to be around, the impact that it has on the child can be devastating. But in the end the father would soon find out that reality leaves no one unaffected, including himself.

The audience response was unreal! And even though I’d experienced that before, it was the emotional aspect. The tears / voices speaking / gasps etc… It was at that moment I understood and was overwhelmed with the clarity of my purpose : WRITING

Who inspired you?

My mother and the issues of the world. I hear and see so many stories, so many situations that can be easily judged, scrutinized, and criticized. At the risk of sounding cliche’, when you’re on the outside looking in, it undermines our ability as human beings to fully understand the complexity of any given situation, and unless you’re in that situation, you cannot fully understand the true components, or the impact, or the toll it’s taken. I’m always mindful of the fact that their experience could one day become my reality.

What do you want people to take away from The John Edwards Project?

That we’re all human beings coexisting in a challenged and complex world. And through our attempt in dealing and adapting to life’s changes and challenges, it creates a uniqueness that helps define who we are. Furthermore, I want to empower and be the sounding board for the “voice of the people” who want to bring about a change.

The world we live in is a beautiful place, but unfortunately there are pockets of ugliness scattered all around us, but through my site I hope to bring about a renewed awareness of our differences, along with a level of understanding as I write to change the world.
