By society’s standards, men are supposed to be the stronger vessel, unscathed, unaffected by life’s uncertainty, distributed through society’s pressures, job changes, and the ebb and flow of relationships (just to name a few).

He’s known to hide, if not fully withdraw from his emotions but, if you peel back the layers and take a closer look, you will see that he yearns to divulge and express his true inner feelings. The pieces in this category open up the valve and releases these hidden feelings captured through candid, unapologetic, heartfelt words.

In my opinion, this is one of God’s greatest creations. Yes, The woman. She’s incredibly beautiful and incredibly strong, but society labels her as fragile, which to me contradicts the strength that she embodies, especially when faced with life’s unpredictable paths.

 

Her resilience is nothing short of amazing, much deeper than the surface, transcending to a place that only she can comprehend. Instinctively nurturing, so as a result, her rationale in relationships are sometimes questioned, undermining that the reality is, she’s only trying to establish a sense of respect. She does this in all aspects, not just relationships, (which doesn’t define her), but in the workplace, society, etc. The pieces in this category, chronicles her journeys, from the apathetic to the emotional, defining herself with authority.

The youth of today face many challenges and issues such as: peer pressure, drugs and alcohol, social and educational disparity (oft times defined by race and financial status), etc. Society, the media, and even the youth’s own behavior perpetuate the struggle in dealing with these issues.

 

In addition, minority youth encounter a different set of obstacles, in particular, the young black male who unfortunately faces a different kind of issue: targeted racism. The pieces in this category dives deeper into the thought process of the youth, exposing their reality, in their attempt in establishing their identity.

Relationships can be a meaningful part of many people’s lives that carry emotional ties that at times can be challenging and complicated. Working through these problems, while creating a solution, requires a certain level of commitment.

 

But of course there are those relationships that require a deeper level of understanding and strength. These are the relationships that are impossible to judge unless you have experienced it for yourself. The pieces within this category depict these challenges.

 

Politics, through a process, makes decisions that determine policies and laws that legislates our society. But the reality is it has “legal” power. The pieces under this category show how the game of politics affects us economically, culturally, socially, as well as our legal system.
